The prices for mining and quarrying increased by 1.9 percent compared to April 2025, resulting in a 0.12 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change. In the same period, the prices for manufactured products decreased by 0.5 percent, contributing -0.37 percentage points to the monthly index change.Within the group, a noteworthy price decrease was registered for basic metals (-2.6 percent). Besides, the prices decreased for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning by 2.2 percent, contributing -0.23 percentage points to the monthly index change.The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the following products:• Mining and quarrying: the prices were 13.3 percent higher, contributing 0.84 percentage points to the overall annual index change. Within the group, the prices were higher for the subgroup of metal ores (18.1 percent);• Manufactured products: the prices increased by 3.2 percent, contributing 2.62 percentage points to the overall annual index increase. There was a notable increase in the prices for food products (4.9 percent) and beverages (4.6 percent);• Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning: the annual price increase amounted to 13.8 percent, which contributed 1.39 percentage points to the annual index change;• Water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services: the annual price increase amounted to 0.4 percent, which contributed 0.01 percentage points to the annual index growth.

Zurab Girchi Japaridze was not present at the court hearing.According to the charges brought by the prosecutor’s office based on the application of the temporary investigative commission, Japaridze was prosecuted under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to “failure to comply with the request of the Parliament’s temporary investigative commission of Georgia.”On April 16, Japaridze was granted a bail of GEL 20,000 as a preventive measure, with the payment deadline set for May 18. After the bail was not paid by the deadline, the preventive measure was replaced with detention on May 22.

According to the NBG, the regulation outlines the conditions for registering currency exchange providers, the issuance of licenses, and the obligations operators must fulfill to offer non-cash exchange services.Importantly, the regulation will not affect existing currency exchange points that operate exclusively in cash. These entities may continue operating under the current framework. However, if they intend to add cashless exchange services, they will be required to comply with the new regulations and apply for a separate operating license.The NBG is accepting proposals and feedback on the draft regulation until June 27, 2025.
