Tbilisi (GBC) - The banking sector ended 2024 with a profit of more than GEL 3 billion.
Profits are record, but the annual growth rate - 14% is significantly lower than the previous year's rate. In 2023, the sector showed a 30% growth (2023 - 2.716; +30%Y.Y, 2022 - 2.085 billion).
As of 01.01.2025, all banks are profitable except for Silk Bank, whose annual loss exceeds 11 million, which management explains with increased costs required for digital transformation. The loss-making for the 6-year period is also associated with the exit of BTA Bank (Kazakhstan) from the shareholder structure years ago.
New digital banks are entering the market at a loss. The total profit of 13 profitable banks is 3.1 billion GEL.
TOP-7 has been changed. Bank Cartu has been promoted from 8th (2023) to 6th position, and the former MFO "Credo" to 5th.
The share of 2 systemic banks among the profitable ones is 87.5% (2023- 87.7%)
