Tbilisi (GBC) – The Chairman and members of the Central Election Commission will have the right to carry service weapons. The members of the Central Election Commission will be added to the list of persons who, in accordance with the Law on Weapons, have the right to carry service weapons for the exercise of their powers.
The legislative initiative was submitted to the Parliament by the deputies of the Georgian Dream.
According to the same draft, after the expiration of their term of office, the right to carry self-defense firearms will be retained by those members of the Central Election Commission who have continuously exercised their powers during the last 4 years of their term of office. This will not be possible for a member of the Central Election Commission whose violation of election legislation has been confirmed by a court decision.
Yesterday, January 27, it was announced that the Chairman of the Central Election Commission and the members of the CEC will receive state compensation. The aforementioned initiative here also belongs to the deputies of the Georgian Dream faction.
According to the draft submitted to the Parliament, the Chairman/member of the CEC will be granted the compensation of a CEC member upon reaching the age of 65 or in the case of a total length of service of at least 25 years, if he/she has been a CEC member continuously for 5 years.
The amount of compensation for a CEC member is determined as one third of the official salary of a CEC member.
State compensation will not be granted to a CEC member against whom there is a legally effective court decision confirming his/her violation of election legislation.
