Tbilisi (GBC) - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday said €475 million would be allocated from the state budget for refreshing the fleet of consists for Tbilisi Metro in the Georgian capital city.

In a meeting with Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, Garibashvili reviewed details of the spending, the Government Administration said.

Kaladze said 212 carriages of “modern, international standard” would be purchased with the funds to gradually replace the existing “obsolete” consists over the next 15 years.

The Mayor added the carriages comprised 45 consists, with 13 four-car trains intended to be used on the Saburtalo Line and 32 units of five-car trains on the Akhmeteli-Varketili Line.

He also said a market survey would be announced in the next few days before an international tender involving “highly qualified and experienced” foreign companies producing subway carriages and suburban trains.
