Tbilisi (GBC) - On Soviet Occupation Day, the state flag was lowered at the government administration building, marking a poignant moment in history.

Today reflects 104 years since the Soviet occupation. In observance of this anniversary, the state flags have been lowered at the Presidential Palace, the Parliament building, various military units, administrative buildings and Georgian diplomatic missions worldwide.

According to a resolution passed by the Parliament of Georgia on July 21, 2010, February 25 is officially recognized as the Day of Soviet Occupation. On this day, Georgia honours the victims of the occupation by lowering state flags throughout the country.

On February 25, 1921, the Russian Red Army seized Tbilisi, overthrowing the democratically elected government of Georgia and effectively annexing the Democratic Republic of Georgia, a sovereign entity recognized under international law.
