Tbilisi (GBC) - In the first eight months of 2024, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) registered 639 applications related to consumer rights protection. Among them, the percentage of applicants by gender is 70% women and 30% men.
- During the reporting period, according to the GCCA’s decision, the 65 facts of violations of the rights of the consumer group were confirmed in 132 cases.
- Due to non-fulfillment of the obligation imposed by the GCCA, 42 traders were fined in 71 cases, in total - 43 701 GEL.
- The Agency signed 108 commitment agreements in favor of the consumer on 125 cases. This means the traders have made an obligation - to change its internal policy and to restore the rights of those consumers who allegedly suffered damages due to the trader’s policy in the past.
68% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 32% to the case of purchasing the item on the spot. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 85%, Adjara with 4%, which is followed by Imereti with 2%, and other regions.
According to the received applications, the demand for a refund is 211, the repair or return of a defective item is 197, 107 for restoring the right to a defective service, 39 for items delivered within the specified time frame, 23 for the unconditional return of the item, and the rest is 47.
In the reporting period, according to the received applications, 73% is the wholesale and retail sector, transport and warehousing 12%, arts, entertainment, and leisure 4%, and 11% other activities.
